9/01/2017 - My honest thoughts
One of the reasons I was so interested in something to do with Dee again, was because of the Hitchcock suspense that I thought would go with it. Would they do that though? Or was it just too much to suspect? It'd just be disappointing if they ever actually did it? Also, because of what they had to live up to.
Now this could probably just be all the excitement but...
Honestly, I thought that was one of the coolest episodes of "Neighbours" I'd seen in 12 years. I am not *beep* you guys.
Everything just came together like a symphony. Dee's presence hangs over the whole episode, even though we never actually see her in person, and at one point you almost felt like she could be hiding somewhere around the corner. Toadie wakes up from a dream about his "dead" first wife and then Sonya tells Toadie that she's pregnant. Wow. And then the next layer with Mark and Steph coming over to the house telling them that they're going to get married, and all the insecurities Steph would be feeling when Sonya has to break the news that she's pregnant. Sonya at the end just kind of awkwardly walks out of the room to go and check on Nell and then... like the reprisal of the first movement, Toadie checks his phone fixating on Dee.
Then the next layer... Piper begging her parents about Tyler, one of my favourite actors on the show, and Therese true to character goes ballistic, meanwhile Brad's probably thinking back to what he was like. We all know where this is going.
The layers and the tension keep building and building and building, all the while the presence of Dee hangs over this episode setting the stage for a fourteen week return which involves who knows what, how many twists and turns..........
And true to expectation, so far, though I was pretty nervous, everything seems to be unfolding just beautifully. I always thought, if they got this right, it would be some of the most riveting "Neighbours" they've done in years.
The real test though lies in what actually happens when we see her, but the suspense and the doubt of what's going to happen, also put into contrast with everything that's going on around them, has been absolutely splendid TV for me!
