Anyone else been watching since around 1989/1990?
Neighbours was my introduction to TV when i was 4 or 5.
shareNeighbours was my introduction to TV when i was 4 or 5.
shareYeah I watched it then almost without fail, I missed the odd episode here or there but it wasn't a big deal. I started watching the early 1986 episodes when they first aired here in the UK in mid-late '87 when Max and Danny Ramsay were still in it, I was only seven at the time.
shareAhhh ok, i was born in 1985, so those episodes were before my time, i don't think i recognize those character names.
I remember when i first started watching it Kylie and Jason were in it, the original Willis family were living in the Kennedy's house. Doug, Pam and their 3 or 4 kids.
I remember the Robinson's plus Todd and Melissa. Also Des and Daphne, when she got killed by the bus.
Those were my earliest memories of Neighbours.
Intermittently since 1992, properly since 1996. Stopped in 2014 but watched the anniversary episodes in 2015 & have just tuned in again for Dee's return.
shareCool! Dee's return and all it unravels should make for an interesting storyline, which was badly needed right now.
Curious, why did you stop watching in 2014?

Fair enough. And yeah I agree, the storylines were going downhill for a while, only recently been better I think.
I've been watching longer than that! I saw some of the 1985 episodes during the school holidays in the UK and I've been watching regularly ever since the BBC first started showing it in the evenings, halfway through the 1986 season!(Which would probably have been around 1988 for us...)
shareThat's cool! I wish i could've seen some of the very first episodes. I've seen parts of the pilot episode. But i would've liked to have seen the original characters from when it first started like the Ramsays. Maybe on YouTube.
share*Definitely* check out the original season if you can. This is where the whole "Paul saga" starts out, really with his marriage to Terry. And I prefer the original more brooding Scott played by Darius Perkins. Worth watching just for "Mad Max" really!!
shareThanks! I'll have to check out some old clips on YouTube.
shareI watched it for a long time years ago, then stopped - can't really remember why - and then last year, I started watching again, for various reasons including needing a distraction from some things in my life, thinking Kip Gamblin is hot (as good a reason as any, I say), and having meant to actually start sooner but not quite getting around to it, so it's 2016 return was just a good time for me to start again.
shareI'd say the storylines have improved recently, after the long dry spell.
I agree about Kip Gamblin! His son Ned's not bad either
Its funny seeing you guys talk about Kip Gamblin because I have vague memories of the original Brad back in 1992 when I started watching intermittently.
I wish I'd been old enough to enjoy the birth & early days of Neighbours but I was born in 1986 & was too young to watch from the beginning. But I now look back & am pleased I was at least able to enjoy the nineties years when there was no online catch up TV, Sky Plus etc. & me & my friends at boarding school would finish our last class for the day, race to the TV room & enjoy the escapism Neighbours provided.
I remember the original Brad, too. I tell myself that obviously he dyed his hair, of course.
Catch up TV is the best invention of the last... ever since recording of TV was invented, though.
I definitely agree - I think the not so great storylines were still playing out last year. This year feels so much more interesting.
He is gorgeous. I actually remember him back in the day on Home & Away as Chris Hemsworth's brother. Ned too. But they have a very attractive cast generally.
Yes i remember original Brad, i think there were two Brad's in the 90s. But i remember the tall, blonde Brad more - Scott Michaelson.
Yes, Kip played Scott didn't he? Those were the days i used to watch Home and Away - i stopped watching years ago. I didn't like where it was heading, imo it was becoming like an Aussie Hollyoaks!
And yes, i agree! Very attractive cast!
Kip Gamblin did not play Chris Hemsworth's brother in Home and Away: In fact Chris Hemsworth's character ended up with the sister of Kip Gamblin's character!
(Sadly I end up disliking Kip Gamblin's characters in pretty much everything he does.Well, maybe not Dance Academy.)
You're right, I was a little confused. Robbie was Scott's brother, not Kim, of course. And I do know Chris played Kim. It's been a few years is my only defence.
shareStill remember my joke which went something like this...Brad turns up to one of Sonya's alcoholics gamblers anonymous meetings and for some reason or other she just ends up getting fed up. So she's like, "You know what? Why don't you just Kip Gamblin!"
