Music in Season 3's 'Big Man on Mulberry Street'

Hi, Does anyone know anything about the song during Maddie's dream sequence, and then later the same melody is performed near the end with a jazz/sax instrumentation? What song is it, was it written specifically for the show, is it available on CD...? Any info appreciated. Thanks

Billy Joel "Big Man On Mulberry Street". He wrote this specifically for this episode. You should be able to download and/or purchase it.

Wow, thank you! I had no idea...
By chance do you know if that beautiful slow jazzy rendition of the melody that plays near the end of the episode is available anywhere? I found it so pretty it almost made me cry.

The jazzy rendition was composed by Alf Clausen, who scored all of Moonlighting. Alf has told me that he would love to release a cd of Moonlighting score music but the powers that be need to be convinced that there is a profitable market for it.

Alf also did a nice turn for director Stanley Donen at the start of the episode. The breakfast scenes in the restaurant are cued to a version of "Good Mornin'" -- one of the big dance numbers from "Singin' in the Rain."

Great tune, one of Billy Joel's best.

"BMOMS" fit David to a tee. On the same album (are we only calling them CDs now?) is a song called "Modern Woman" which seems to be talking about Maddie Hayes. I don't know if Joel had her character in mind but I wonder if it's possible that after "BMOMS" for David, he thought of a song for Maddie too. They're both great songs on a great CD, The Bridge. Most of Billy Joel's earlier work was divine inspiration anyway!

I always thought "Uptown Girl" was the perfect song for David and Maddie.
