Ending
Was there actually a proper ending or did it just fizzle out?
shareDoes "King Igthorn" ring a bell?
shareYes, there was a final episode, a two parter actually, though it was open ended. The basic overview is that Duke Igthorn had left Dunwyn after he had been gone for a while the Gummi assumed that he had left permenantly and Zummi signaled the Great Gummis telling them it was safe to return. However, Igthon eventually returned with a termite that he used to destroy Gummi Glen. He then captured the seven Glen Gummis. He then captured the Gummis and forced Grammi and Tummi to make gummiberry juice threatening to kill Gruffi and Gusto if they didn't. He then used an army of super strong ogres to take over Dunwyn. He then locked Gruffi and Gusto in the the dungon of Dunwyn castle and put Grammi and Tummi to work in the kitchen making gummiberry juice (and since when does Tummi known how to make gummiberry juice?). I forget what he did with Zummi, Sunni and Cubbi. Igthorn also leans that the Great Gummis are returning and plans to ambush them when they arive. Ultimatly the Gummis are freed by Ursula and Gritti. Gusto has made a pet of the termite and uses it against Igthorn by having it eat his catapults. Zummi finds a spell that can make the Great Book fly and uses it to warn the approaching Great Gummis of the ambush and they safely trun back. The other Gummis along with the Barbics untimaly defeat Igthon and return King Greggor to his throne all without revealing themselves to the humans. The seven Glen Gummis are now homeless so they move to Urselia with the Barbics. At the end Zummi recieves a messege from the Great Gummis stating that they have arived safely back to whereever it is they came from but that they will return soon.
sharei thought the final episode was a little disappointing. i wanted to see the great gummies.
shareYes, that would have been better. However, this episode was what I have termed a "Premptive Strike Finale". Back in the those days cartoons and other childrens progams often were not given the same status as other TV shows and basically could be cancled at any moment without prior notice. Therefore, sometimes when the producers of a show suspected that they might be dropped after the current season they would make a show that could serve as a finale but also left it open ended just in case the network should unexpectedly renew the show. This was also ture the "Dungeons and Dragons" for which a final episode was writen but never produced b/c the network ended up pulling the show mid-season.
