Orgins

While surfing the web I found out the orgin of the Gummi Bear series. It was in 1984, during Michael Eisner's first week as CEO. Prior to that, every suggestion that Disney do an animated series had to combat naysayers' brusque brandishing of a famous quote from Walt Disney himself: "Sure, we could put a half-hour of animation on each week, but that would be cheating." Eisner, seeking to revive the struggling company's fortunes, had no qualms about a little "cheating" so long as the product was worthy of Disney: "We can't go on television and look like trash." Taking a cue from his son's fascination with the chewy candy called "Gummi Bears", Eisner sketched out the notion of a series based on "magical bears in medieval garb" of that name during his very first week as Disney's CEO. With animation done in Japan and Korea, writing and voicework handled in the United States, and a number of doomsayers predicting disaster or squawking sacrilege (or both), "Gummis" went on the air in September 1985. You know the rest of the story.

That is so interesting! Thanks for posting that. I always wondered why they got named after the sweets.
