Greatest DAFT Show?
I know I've said this before, & I'll probably say it again, but Gummi Bears is the best thing Diney has ever done. In fact, the 1st season of the Disney Afternoon(Gummi Bears, Ducktales, Chip N' Dale Rescue Rangers, & Talespin) is by far the best thing Disney has ever done(lot better than the original Disney shorts & movies, I daresay).
#1-Gummi Bears, course. It was filled with wonderful characters(my favorites being Cubbi & Gusto), witty dialogue, exciting adventure, an awesome theme song, a couple of emotional moments & more background than the other Disney cartoons combined. It's also the one Disney show I would've saved from the dreaded 65 episode policy(natch).
#2-Talespin. Of all my favorite cartoons, TS has improved the most over the years. It's gone from bad(when I first saw it as a kid, I thought it was a rip-off of Ducktales, which was my favorite Disney thing at the time) to 7th best cartoon ever. The animation is the best of all Disney shows, even better than Gummi Bears(the rest was 2nd only to GB, though). Talespin actually convinced me that Gummi Bears would hold up, since their both written by Jymn Magon, who, BTW, is a genius, with a capital GENIUS.
#3-Rescue Rangers. Also better than I remember it. It's gone from great to 9th best cartoon ever. The characters are excellent(no other Disney show has such a tightly knit team, not even Gummi Bears), the humor uproarious(especially the parodies), just plain all-around terrific.
#4-Ducktales. Contrary to Talespin, DT hasn't aged well(went from my Top 5 cartoons[as a kid] to 12th favorite ‘toon at best). As stated before, it's harder to sympathize with the characters than in the other 3 DA shows. Also, the humor is more apt to bring a wry smile to my face than the constant guffaws some of the other shows had me emitting(even Darkwing Duck was better in the humor department). Plus it could be way too cute, even in some of the good episodes. But it's the best show that's "good, but not as good as I remember it". There were more than enough great episodes, & Scrooge is my favorite of the *ahem*, ‘classic' Disney characters(I don't count the Rescue Ranger versions of Chip N' Dale as part of them). In fact, he's better than the rest of them combined.
#5-Darkwing Duck. The funniest Disney show. If comedies are your thing, watch this. Me? While comedies have their place, I prefer things more balanced(i.e., a mix of comedy, action & adventure & complex characters). But I will still get the DVDs eventually.
The other shows? Goof Troop & Bonkers are a poor man's Animaniacs &/or Taz-Mania(even Tiny Toons was better), Mighty Ducks I vaguely remember, but not enough to give a fair rating(I think it was pretty good, though), Aladdin was good, same with was Timon & Pumbaa. I used to love Gargoyles, not so much anymore. I hated Quack Pack even as a kid. Oh, BTW, I have actually never seen the Disney Afternoon, but I have seen most of the shows in it, as you can tell. So, what are your opinions?
