Sable was only six years older than 'daughter' Monica

One of the things that always bothered me about the show was how Frankie and Sable looked too young to be the mothers of grown children. Katharine Ross was 16 years older than John James, so that could fit--just barely. But Stephanie Beachem was only six years older than Monica and only 12 years older than Miles. . .c'mon! I guess she was supposed to be playing a woman in her late forties who married very young, but it was still just kinda weird.

Yes, if you watch the show, you'll notice that Sable's hair was dyed with streaks of gray to make her appear older than her real life age.

I loved those streaks of gray in Stephanie Beacham's hair. I didn't necessarily know that it was dyed to make her look older, but I did think it was very distinguished-looking (usually an adjective reserved for men who gray). But I thought it really worked for her. I also thought that, while she had beautiful, unlined skin in the mid-late '80's, she did fit the part as Monica's mother.

Yes, Sable was clearly too young for that part. It was ridiculous. She was not even 40 years old when the show opened.

Actors are mere products of a good writer's imagination

I remember when Gordon Thomson joined the cast of DYNASTY, Joan Collins thought he was too old to be playing their first born son, as he was only 12 years younger than she. If I remember correctly, she wanted him to lie about his age - say he was ten years younger to the press - so it was more believable. However, I don't think her idea went too far. Somehow, it worked though...he did look young enough to be her son (in the beginning).

I prefer fantasy over reality TV - like Fox News. - B.Streisand
