Who Sang The Theme Song?

Who sang the theme song?

I'm pretty certain it was Marla Gibbs a.k.a. Mary Jenkins.

reply

Yeah, I thought it was Marla, too.

Marla Gibbs's vocals are very recognizable on the 227 theme song.

In fact, I just saw the show for the first time in several years today on TV Land during the Christmas Merry-Thon, and I was happy to hear the theme song again. It has a great laid-back melody, a great laid-back beat, and a great laid-back vocal performance by Marla. It has a great overall laid-back feel.

I was really struck by how nice Marla's voice is, especially when she's singing midtempo and mid-register. I'm curious now to find out if Marla has done any albums.

Mmmm-mmmm!

I thought it was Marla Gibbs herself. It was a pretty good theme song, since it was about life in general.

Marla Gibbs did do a good job performing the theme song. On a side note, I think Alaina Reed might have done backup vocals on the track, it sort of sounds like it.

I mean no place, Child!"

Am I dreaming or did the first episodes start with Marla Gibbs doing sort of a rap:

"227 is the place to be
With Mara Gibbs and her family, etc."

reply

I think that was the advertisement on the radio. I remember it also! "227 is a comedy with Marla Gibbs and her family"!

reply

I believe you're right!! That part is in the "227" Trivia section.
I've never heard it but I want to. I wish I could find it on Youtube.

Whenever I hear this theme song or the theme to "Amen", I still think of getting ready for church tomorrow morning since both shows aired Saturday night
