Who sang the theme song?

Marla Gibbs's vocals are very recognizable on the 227 theme song.
In fact, I just saw the show for the first time in several years today on TV Land during the Christmas Merry-Thon, and I was happy to hear the theme song again. It has a great laid-back melody, a great laid-back beat, and a great laid-back vocal performance by Marla. It has a great overall laid-back feel.
I was really struck by how nice Marla's voice is, especially when she's singing midtempo and mid-register. I'm curious now to find out if Marla has done any albums.
Mmmm-mmmm!

I thought it was Marla Gibbs herself. It was a pretty good theme song, since it was about life in general.
shareAm I dreaming or did the first episodes start with Marla Gibbs doing sort of a rap:
"227 is the place to be
With Mara Gibbs and her family, etc."
I think that was the advertisement on the radio. I remember it also! "227 is a comedy with Marla Gibbs and her family"!
shareI believe you're right!! That part is in the "227" Trivia section.
I've never heard it but I want to. I wish I could find it on Youtube.
"Do you even remember what you came here to find?"
It was Marla Gibbs....remember, she sang on " The Jeffersons" too....Florence was very active in her Church Choir
