Anvil
Has anybody ever heard of the band Anvil? Actually this little-known band had a sizeable exposure in the early 80s as well as a significant impact on the 80s metal scene, including greats like Metallica and Slayer who cite these Canadians as an influence. Since then however they have fallen completely off the radar, being relegated back to small town status, playing only local pubs as well as European festivals. There is actually an award winning rockumentary about them that is so close to Spinal Tap it is ridiculous:

Just to give you an impression, a sample lyric of an Anvil song:
All I need is a lady
With more than average size
She's gotta be a bit crazy
Won't take no compromise
If she can fill a "D" cup
It's good enough to keep me up
Get you down on your backside
I wanna see your wares
Gonna mount you for a good ride
Nothing else compares
Takin' one into each hand
Do as I command
Now
Doin' the Butter-Bust Jerky
We're gonna get down and dirty
Doin' the Butter-Bust Jerky
And makin' me feel so good
Dip your fingers in the butter
Spread it all across your chest
In between one another
You know what I like best
Push 'em close together
The tighter the better
Doin' the Butter-Bust Jerky
We're gonna get down and dirty
Doin' the Butter-Bust Jerky
We're gonna get down and dirty
Doin' the Butter-Bust Jerky
And makin' me feel so good
Also the name of the band's drummer is - get this! - Robb Reiner!!!
Now there's been a lot of speculation on whom Spinal Tap is mostly based on, i.e. Saxon, Led Zeppelin, Status Quo... but after watching the Anvil rockumentary the answer should be obvious.
Death solves all problems. - Stalin share
