Why Wasn't Bibi Besch Not In ST 3?

She wasn't even mentioned, plus her scene from WoK where she explains the Genesis Device is redone with Shatner.

But she WAS not in it.

I've always wondered how she dealt with David's death. It was presumably a very difficult loss, as they were shown to be very close. And while you can't really rationally blame Kirk, it would be pretty easy for her to point the finger at him. She had always tried to keep David close to her, away from Kirk, so he wouldn't run off with Starfleet. We're only left to see how it affected Kirk though. But seeing as how he barely knew David it probably wasn't nearly the loss that it was for her. I can't believe she wouldn't have been pissed at him at least for a little while though, because she laid it out to Kirk that she was afraid of David meeting him and leaving the nest to go off with Starfleet. Which is exactly what happened, and he died.

Carols absence is explained in the novelization that starfleet was covering up the events of Genesis and declined to survey the Genesis planet instead visiting the families of those killed in regula one .

Probably the studio felt that Bibi's presence - even in that brief Genesis "documentary" - would only serve to emphasise the actress's absence from Search for Spock.

Having Kirk overdub Carole's original narration was a way of telling audiences that the film and the space situation has moved beyond Bibi, although not (yet) beyond David and Saavik. Why emphasise an important character's absence from a sequel by actually showing her, no matter how briefly (so the studio may have reasoned)...?

Nice info, Doctor_Omega. Thanks for that.

I can understand leaving her out of III, but I really wish they had found a place for her going forward. Certainly not in STIV, unless she were there at the end to support Kirk and Co. in their trial at the end. But in STV or certainly VI. We never got any closure there with she and Kirk and it's always bugged me.

There was a great scene in DC's mirror universe saga comic, set right after TSFS, where Kirk returns to Regula and informs Carol about David's death. She promptly slaps him. Later the have a funeral for David. I wish they would have included a scene like this in IV.

It was very odd that not even the character's name was mentioned in the movie.

She is mentioned...when when Kirk does the Genesis Device summary, he says, "as developed by Doctors Carol and David Marcus".

It was obviously a money issue, to avoid having to pay Bibi anything.

I do wish the film would have mentioned or included the scene from the novelization thst explains the character absence as star fleet covering up the events of the Genesis planet and carol instead decided to pay visits to the scientists killed by khan.

Just remember, the novels are based on the script. The authors always included more character moments and ideas that were never conceived in the script. It was natural for the author to continue Carol's story even though money issues didn't allow for her character to return in the film.
