Why didn't the mother alien.... *SPOILERS**

.... attack the kid while he was trapped in the basement with her? Afterall, she devoured the kid's parents AND the electrican. Hell, it even ate the cat! But with the kid, she just sort of sat there almost taunting him. AND he got away! I know alot of responses are going to say "The film makers didn't have the heart to have a kid get killed" but if the creature was vicious enough to take out the two campers, the parents, the electrician the cat, and later on the love interest which we thought was going to survive until the end (which was a ballsy move on the film makers part, which is one of the reasons this movie is so unique), I would've thought it would've taken out the kid in a heartbeat. Or at least the baby creatures would've devoured him.
