I found this movie BORING as all hell!
"Your Entertainment is our Business."
I just saw it on DVD just now and you're right in some areas, the film is very low-budget and amateurishly made; terrible sound, bad lighting, bad acting, tedious dialogue.
But gore fans will not be dissapointed by the enthusiastic mayhem; blood splattering by the drumload, a head gets bitten off, a hand chewed up, skin being ripped off, plus the alien creatures are not the least bit camera shy.
It has a lot of influence from Night of the Living Dead with aliens replacing the zombies as the carnivorus creatures. It also has a not more energy than most of the other more expensive and independent horror/sci-fi efforts.
The creature even looks more realistic than most CGI monsters!
shareI saw this movie at my 13th birthday (couple of decades ago) and it was scary as hell! At least what I remember, this was gory glory. So I need to see this again. Maybe it's not that gory after all....
Oh, it's gory. It even got on the Video Nasties list in the UK. It may not hold up to your childhood memories though. Our response as a kid to most anything tends to have more emotional backing. As adults we tend to be more jaded and unaffected.
shareActually The Deadly Spawn never made the official video nasties list in the UK.The video company that released it back then in the early 80's,Vipco,were responsible however for releasing some films that made the official list (eg.Zombie Flesh-Eaters,Driller Killer,The Bogey Man,Death Trap). The Deadly Spawn was NOT one of them.

agreed themoviedefender!
shareYeah, I saw it when I was a kid but I can't remember 5h1t about it, maybe I blocked out becouse this movie is lame dudes... but I saw it again a few days ago and... god... penises with teeth is no fun! sorry.
shareSaw it a bit back. Scared me as it was just soooooo nasty! It wasn't so much the gore itself (I like films like Planet Terror) but the sheer nature of the killings. Ewww!
"Hey! Ladies! That was fun!"
Just watched it a several minutes ago. I didn't think it was a horrible film at all, just a low-budget one made by amateurs. The deaths to me weren't actually that gory, just gruesome. It's a pretty fun movie if you don't expect it to be that good.
Welcome to my Nightmare- Freddy Krueger
They did some pretty cool effects with what they could afford.
