Why would 'Muppet' rats horrify people?

If Rizzo and his friends of the same specie are 'Muppet' rats instead of 'regular' rats, then why do they terrify and disgust restaurant patrons? The rest of the Muppets comfortably interact with humans without question despite including a frog, a pig, a dog, and a bear, so why are the rats treated differently?
