when nausicaa opens that womans top

why does she stop?
cos she saw something?
my brother always says ah shes looking at her boobs but i dunno
does anyone know?

reply

It's kinda obvious. She saw her wounds and realized they were so massive that there was nothing she could do other than comfort her.

reply

I always thought that she realized that the victim was in fact the princess of Pejite, so she felt even sadder after knowing that a princess (like herself) was about to die.
Well, that's my personal interpretation.

Those are my principles, and if you don't like them... well I have others

reply

personally, i thought that when she stopped, she had just died and maybe she felt it. never thought about her wounds, but that makes alot of sense now.

reply

I don't think it was that, I think she'd have cared just as much about anybody as she valued all life.

I'm only going to say this once: stay out of Camberwick Green - Sam Tyler

reply

She realized that it was futile to try to save somebody who was so badly injured.

English Language Anime: Dub it, don't pervert it.

reply

your brother is stupid. tell him to go die in a fire?

she saw some horrible wound, and was saddened by it.

WHY would she be horrified at boobs?

reply

YOU KNOW WHAT THOUGH?

LAZY ANIMATION!

the dress that the woman was wearing wasn't disturbed at all. so although the explanation of the "horrible" wounds makes sense, this leaves the small chance that nausicaa's look was for something else (not boobs though. that's stupid).

most probably it was just lazy animation though

reply

The point about the clothes was (i think) correct. It's hard think she was looking at her wounds, when the clothes were not damaged that badly.

reply

Maybe she had bruises or some other injury that wouldn't affect the clothes. It's not lazy animation to not show everything in graphic detail but an artistic choise.

reply

What the frick is wrong with you? Go die in a fire because he thought she saw her boobs?

Bone, it is what it is.

reply

It's just a cinematic device. Naussica was going to try to help this woman, opened up her clothes, then saw she was far too injured to be helped.

Something a lot of you are forgetting is that this is a family film. They weren't in the habit of showing blood "at all", so they had to use other means to get the message across.

I don't understand the confusion... my sister and I when we watched WARRIORS OF THE WIND when it played on HBO on the regular rotation got the message: Zhondra/Nausicaa makes a "gross" face and slowly closes her shirt back. Her chest could have been caved in, with bones not so much sticking out of her body but contorted enough for Z/N to realize that the Princess was mortally wounded after surviving a plane crash right into the side of a mountain.

reply

I think they were wounds they showed or gave evidence to her enslavement and/or capture. Miyazaki never really wanted to go out of his way to be gory. Just for the sake of it. So it's not lazy animation, just an artistic decision... also, to keep it more family watchable. Showing a pair of tits in a family flick doesn't really fly, especially for Miyazaki.

reply

She got jealous of her boobs and decided to let her die.

You'd feel cocky too if you were full of myself.

reply

I think we have a winner.
