Before I get too far ahead of myself, let me introduce you to two more men without whom most of Miyazaki's films would not have happened: Isao Takahata and Toshio Suzuki. Takahata, being five years older than Miyazaki, helped the latter in his early years at Toei Animation Studios during the 1960's. Though their partnership is now legendary for both for its output as well as its length (they have been working together for over fifty years now), they spent their early years in relative obscurity.
