I saw this movie at Big Lots for $3 and i didn't get but i want to no if its any good before i buy, but i usally buy movies without any notice but this i had to check out for before i buy it.
Objectively, No it's not a good movie by any stretch, but I think it's one of those 80's movies that are so cheesy you can't change the channel and end up watching the whole thing with a stupid grin on your face.
It's actually not that good, but it is entertaining. Classic ski-bums v. Ski-snobs hi-jinks copied by them from "Animal House" and "Caddyshack" and copied later by "Ski School" "Out Cold" and other 1980's T'n'A movies like "The Beach Girls" or "Private Lessons". Think "Spring Break" or "Where the Boys Are 1984", but on the slopes. I think "Porky's" is a good comparison for it's immature and bathroom humor, but Porky's is actually a better movie than this one, if you can believe it. "Porky's" dealt with racism agains Jews, rednecks, moral turpitude, and Kim Cattrall's bush and kind of served as the genesis of movies like "Goin' All the Way", "The Last American Virgin", "Revenge of the Nerds", "Better Off Dead", "American Pie", and "Superbad".
"Hot Dog-The Movie" doesn't go anywhere near that deep. That is, unless you're in the hot tub with Mrs. Gene Simmons.
I think the fact that it's entertaining *makes* is a good film! 10/10 for me...it's got this feeling about it that you just don't see in films today...perhaps its the 80s feel-good aspect to it, or just because it didn't take itself too seriously. I'm sure it would have been a blast being part of the filming.
I spent 5 winters, during and after college and before grad school, living in Squaw Valley as a ski bum. Among hardcore skiers, the movie has a huge cult following. Among Squaw ski bums this movie is just huge, and it has a big following among ski bums in general.
There was a big party at Squaw for the 20th anniversary of the flick. Lots of people showed up, with many dressed as characters from the film. They got most of the actors from the movie, with the exception of Shannon Tweed.
You've probablly seen it since, but I think so. Well yes and no. It's well worth $3 for sure.
The movie has hot women, some funny scenes, nice stunts, but cliche, unfocused story, odd confusing and sometimes even meaningless characters, etc.
Is it me or was Shannon Tweed only in this to get naked? Honestly this was probaby the hottest I've ever seen her, don't get me wrong, but I was watching this last night, and she doesn't really have much purpose to be here. After the sex scene she appears maybe twice, but doesn't do anything important. It almost feels like they actually tried to make her a villain later.
