143 minutes vs 137??
Why is there a difference between the stated movie length (143 minutes) and the DVD available on Amazon (137 minutes). What 6 minutes were cut?

shareI am from Australia and a huge fan of this film since I saw it as a 14 year old. I recently purchased the DVD and its running time is 131 minutes. That means, with the existence of a 143 min cut, that even if I purchase the 137 min cut from Amazon, I am still missing up to 6 mins. Whats up with that?
Cheers,
Carcuss.
The DVD releases are the full uncut extended (or director's cut) version -

143 minutes must be a mistake then.
It might also be because of the fact that the American cinema standard is 24 frames per second, whereas the European and, might I venture a guess, Australian standard is 25 frames per second. Normal procedure is to show movies at the slightly accelerated frametime in Europe. If this is the case, then it fits that the European version is approximately six minutes shorter.
But I gather that region 1 showings are also 137 minutes, and then that my point does'nt really apply ...
