Does Tarzan know his father was killed by an ape?
I haven't read the books and I should and indeed I will if it is worth reading and is it better then the movies?

sharethe original tarzan novel is a great read...ive not read it in a while, and it is quite different from this film, which attempts to be more realistic.
if i remember rightly in the book they are not chimps they are some kind of fictional super evolved ape who are far superior to normal apes.
im not sure its ever bought up about tarzan knowing of his fathers fate.
'All for one and one for all! You go first, I've got a bad leg.'
Really? Evolved apes? I wonder if that has been used in any of the Tarzan films or shows.
sharenot that ive seen,
here is the wikipedia link

Thanks a million! You've been a big help.
shareI've heard the first two books on audio and were well worth it. (There are many, many Tarzan novels.) The story differs greatly from movie. I was never a Tarzan fan but am now after hearing the books. The movie doesn't even begin to do the story justice and I wish there would be a movie that followed the books more closely. It was the first to present the true spirit of the Tarzan novels, but I just can't get past Andie MacDowell's acting and Glenn Close dubbing her voice for Andie's. In the novel, Jane is from America, so I don't know why they just didn't let her accent alone. The species of the apes are called Mangani but they are more gorilla-like than chimpanzee. In the book, yes he does realize his parents were killed by an ape, but that comes much later. The first book deals mainly with life in the jungle and their encounters with the natives and Jane comes in halfway through. I had to listen to the second book to find out if Tarzan and Jane ended up together. Highly recommend at least the first two books.
shareI became a Tarzan nut after seeing this movie, I watched the Weismuller saga of Tarzan, watched the 2003 tv series that didn't last very long (and for good reason), been trying to purchase the Lex Barker series but I haven't been getting any luck. Then I have been trying to hunt down Tarzan and the lost city which isn't so bad if it was written better. Felt like watching The Phantom which wasn't so bad just felt it could have been better like I feel about Tarzan and the lost city, it could have been better.
I am collecting all the books, sadly there aren't a lot of fanfic stories of Tarzan the book or the films the good and the bad or the tv series both the good and the bad. That sucks huh?
Imagine all of that because you saw the best Tarzan movie ever made with Lambert giving an impeccable performance!
shareReally? Evolved apes? When people begin to talk about super/evolved apes, lords of the jungle etc. I think they need to be reminded that this is what Hudson was trying to avoid with this movie. He wanted to make an origin story that was as realistic as possible. There's no super apes, but there is intelligent ape behaviour on show, there's no Tarzan mentioned and of course we see that Jane would probably not survive in the jungle.
No book is ever better than a movie. Not to mention, you can text while watching a movie unlike when reading a book
