DvD?
Is this movie on dvd?
I would love to buy it!
It's currently not out on DVD and it doesn't look to make it anytime soon. I'd like to see a DVD release myself.
shareYup, same here.
And maybe with some extras!?
Hopefully when it comes to DVD it'll have a nice anamorphic widescreen transfer, Dolby and DTS sound mixes and good extras. I've heard about a making-of featurette but found nothing online when I searched for it. I've also heard about some deleted scenes, but I couldn't find anything on these either.
shareThe first one is on dvd, its pretty hard to find though. Looks like you'll have to go on Ebay and VHS it up.
shareThe DVD of the original movie is out-of-print and very hard to find and goes for very expensive prices on many sites (I've seen it go for as much as $50 on some sites).
shareYou guys kidding me?
It goes for around 10 bucks over here in europe. Full uncut version with Trailer.
In Europe the film is still in print and easy to find. Over here in the United States it's been out of print for a while and overtime has become pricey. Why it went out of print over here is beyond me.
I myself would've gotten the European DVD but I don't have a codefree DVD player yet.
Well, first off, I've given up on trying to find the director's cut of the first one, but, someone from a bootlegging horror movie site ripped me a copy from his Japanese "uncut" laserdisc. I'm pretty sure it is uncut, but you never know. It only has a few extra seconds of gore added in a brief scene w/ Chris George and Samantha Eggar talking about his experiance in Vietnam. It's a super bad quality tape and the guy didn't even edit it right. Laserdiscs had 2 sides, so in the middle of the movie the screen says something like, turn to side 2, and after a few minutes the guy finally turned it over. So, I never watch that version, just my old Embassy tape.
Going back to the topic of part 2, I too read that there is a making of featurette out there and I know there is a theatrical trailer. I'm sure there are enough stills out there if there ever came a dvd a stills gallery could be included. I read that there are some deleted scenes out there and a few brief snippets of a deleted scene can be found in the trailer.
I believe that MGM owns the rights to these movies, because the original was originally released through Embassy, and a lot of there old movies were released through MGM on dvd, like The Howling, Phantasm, The Fog, etc. And MGM originally released part 2 and they still make it, though you can buy it only off of Amamzon.com on vhs. I've alwys dreamed that MGM would make a double feature out of these 2 movies, but I doubt they will, and if they did, we probably wouldn't get uncut versions, but that is certainly possible as MGM has released a lot of movies in there uncut state although the cover says it is the r-rated version. And if we're lucky we'd get the trailers as extras.
I hope all this helps,
Brian
