Extras casting question.

If you look at Google Earth Street View for the San Antonio sites, that is, the River Walk and the Alamo, the mall (Glendale, CA, I believe), The Tower Life Building, the extras in the movie are extraordinarily good looking, compared to the real people we see on Google Earth Street View.

I'm just wondering how much of that is from screening, and how much from the times.

Does anyone remember anything about the casting of extras for this movie. Were there ad's placed in San Antonio newspapers, or was it all done through one or more agencies? What criteria were stated?

Maybe it's in keeping with all the product placement, as this would make the movie like a TV commercial--for which they'd want all pretty people.
