Extended scene with Scrooge and Ghost OCYTC

I seem to remember an extended version of the scene with the Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come and Scrooge (yes, Scott's Scrooge) in the graveyard right after Scrooge discovers his name on the tombstone. Scrooge wants to see the Ghost's face, takes the hood off to reveal a skull. Scrooge jumps back screaming and falls into his grave, and then he wakes up in his bed Christmas morning.

I have only seen this version once or twice. Was this an extended scene that was edited from the movie for network TV purposes?

Never heard of that but would love to see it if it was true.

I have the tape and that scene was never in there. I know because I've watched it bunches of times.

I do believe that this scene actually did exist. I don't remember him trying to see the face but I remember him falling into darkness. It was truly terrifying, especially to a 12 year old, so it was probably way to scary so for your average viewer and quite frankly unnecessary. This scene may have only been shown the first time or the first few times that this aired.

I watched this epic and amazing movie the very first time it aired with my family and I have a recollection of the scene you speak of, though I had mostly forgotten about it, so I think you are right and this scene probably does exist. Someone like the director would surely know for sure.

Oh wait, that scene is not in this version. You're thinking of the musical with Albert Finney.

I've never heard about such a scene from the Scott version, but a similar things happens in "Mickey's Christmas Carol." The Ghost of Christmas Future removes his hood, revealing himself to be Black Pete, then gives Uncle Scrooge a slap on the back that knocks him into the open grave.

You are right - there IS a scene like that and I remember it quite clearly!

I just watched it on Netflix and it didn't have it, but I do remember - so you're not crazy.

I saw this movie when it was first broadcast on TV and don't remember any such scene. There are so many versions of ACC that I suspect the scene you mention is from a different one.

The scene does exist but it's in the 1970 musical version with Albert Finney. The scene as been removed and reinstated down the years when broadcast and in different VHS versions. It is a powerful scene that ends with Scrooge being issued with the chain that he will bear in the afterlife, which has to be conducted by several spirits as it is so large. Struggling as he is being weighed down and constricted by the chain, Scrooge wakes up in his bed, tangled up in the bedclothes.

The scene is still present on the available DVD of that version.

There is NO such scene in this 1984 version. Such a scene DOES exist in the 1970 musical, with Scrooge falling down into hell and being greeted by Marley and then being wrapped in his own chains. The hell sequence USED to be cut when it aired on network television to make room for more commercial time, and was seen as originally described in the first post here: Scrooge falls into the grave and then wakes up in bed, the scene in hell having been cut originally on tv. That scenes has ALWAYS been on home video, whether years ago on VHS or laserdisc, and now on DVD and restored television prints. It was ALWAYS part of the theatrical release of the film, although such a scenes is not in the original novel.

I also have the VHS version of George C. Scott's A Christmas Carol, and it doesn't contain the scene described (nor do I remember seeing it on TV as a youth). I do, however, also recollect a similar scene in the Albert Finney musical version, as noted above, so I think that may be the one you're referring to.
