30 Years Ago this day...

The George C. Scott version premiered on CBS television.

Indeed it did, angmc43. I remember the December 17th, 1984 Premier of this Masterpiece on American Television Very Well. I was assigned to watch it for high school English class, and I videotaped it with my Brand New Beta VCR. Young as I was, I immediately pronounced it the all time Best Version, (Displacing Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol) a rating I stand by today. Anyone who saw that Original 1984 Broadcast may remember that all commercials were for IBM and their new Personal Computer, I believe their first. I still have that original Beta tape Recording if you can believe that, and the same Beta VCR which still works Excellently. Some day I'll dig it out and maybe post some Vintage Commercials. Merry Christmas to You by the way, and to Everyone who reads this

I'm jealous lol. I would have loved to watched it when it premiered. I was three at the time, doubt I would have liked it then. I bet it was an event.

I remember the premier. It remained in the CBS run of specials until the late 1980's I think, I recorded it in 1989. IBM was still the main sponsor my family used to watch it every Christmas Eve until it was released on DVD. I remember the IBM commercials well.

I'm so happy we're not alone on this, drewstewartcolumbia. I have yet to dig out my original Beta tape, but I still remember several of the IBM commercials featuring a Charlie Chaplin look-alike.

I wanted an IBM pc so bad back then, that in a way even today I think I get a subconscious sense of extra enjoyment every time I use my computer, especially if I'm using it for fun, not work.

Anyway, Glad You also remember the premiere of such a great, great perennial film that became a Classic.

Merry Christmas to You and Everyone who reads this, may God Bless Us, every one

I didn't have a recording of the original broadcast, but I do have a promo for it, from a December 1984 recording of the Network premiere of THE GREAT MUPPET CAPER.

Did it have the CBS SPECIAL MOVIE intro? I remember in 1999 celebrating the film's 15th Anniversary by using that intro (in this case, a Late December 1984 recording of SPLASHBEAGLE introducing VICTOR/VICTORIA).
