Was this critically panned?
I noticed that De Palma was nominated for worst director for this film. Was it really received that badly?

shareEdit: Worst director Razzie.
shareI remember it getting generally poor reviews. Ebert gave it 3.5 stars (out of four), but most other critics loathed it. I think they failed to appreciate - or even recognize - De Palma's tongue in cheek humor here. A shame because it's a fine movie, if you understand his unusual perspective.
shareOne critic overheard someone say at the end of the movie--'DePalma is disappearing up his own ass****.' I like the movie, and DePalma, but some critics thought he was lifting too many ideas from Hitchcock (Body Double has a similar plot idea to Vertigo). But the Craig Wasson character is sympathetic, like many DePalma characters.
