Wasson finds his niche

I know that even some of the film's admirers aren't sold on Craig Wasson as a leading man. I think he's perfectly suited to the film, and gives quite a bold performance, but different strokes.

The reason for this post: I've recently devoured Wasson's unabridged audio book performances of James Ellroy's Blood's A Rover and Perfidia -- the guy is simply peerless. He does some remarkable voice work, particularly in the former -- my favourite being his fey J. Edgar Hoover in decline -- and the books really come alive. Twenty-five hours never went by so quickly.

Unfortunately, he hasn't recorded a performance of The Black Dahlia, which would bring us back into De Palma land, but here's hoping he stays in step with Ellroy and gives us audio versions of his next three.

Wasson was very sympathetic in this. DePalma knows how important it is to have a character you can feel something for. Years ago Wasson did a very good Mark Twain--Brook Adams was his co-star.

He also has done Stephen King's 11/22/63 and got rave reviews for his work on that audio book.

Cool.
