How did Sam mange to speak to Jake on phone and at the same time stealing (pretending to) stuffs and hiding at Gloria's home?

I'm talking about the scene where Jake is looking into Gloria's house and happens to see the Indian thief (which was Sam himself) while Gloria enters the house and then Jake is all tensed and just during that moment Sam calls Jake!

Other than this Sam was taking too many chances...

He guessed that Jake will run after Sam after stealing Gloria's purse and then wouldn't get caught and then Jake will somehow happen to see Sam (in his Indian mask) stealing the house key card because he (Jake) had a condition

What if the other two men or some men whom Jake alarmed/would alarm while running towards Gloria's house wouldn't catch hold of Sam (in his Indian mask)!

What if Holly speaks to the cops after guessing that something's fishy after possibly learning from the news that the Lady whose house she danced in got murdered !

Sam used the phone from Gloria's house to call Jake. During the moment when he was on the phone, Sam was calling from another room which was not visible from Jake's vantage point. Jake could not see the "Indian" at the same time he was talking to Sam, and he was distracted from the conversation because he was still trying to see what was going on. Sam had to call him at that moment just to ensure that Jake was watching.

Other than this Sam was taking too many chances...

I agree that Sam was taking too many chances. However, the dog was able to keep Jake and the other two guys occupied while Sam made his escape. Since the dog knew Sam, it wouldn't attack him.

She probably hadn't heard of it. Maybe she doesn't watch the news.
