After 20 Years I've Decided: This Movie is Trash

That isn't meant as an insult, because sometimes trash is the only thing that will slake my appetite. But I can remember a time (when I was much younger, obviously) when this film seemed like pretty sophisticated stuff; and now, I can't help but laugh at the garish 80s horndoggery, gory sensationalism, and sheer implausibility of the plot.

All that said, I don't mind having the DVD in my collection, just for kicks.

Anyone feel the same way?

This movie is De Palma having fun with a silly story and a genre that tends to be pretty silly in general. The material is pretty lurid and most of the characters are creeps, it's all incredibly over the top and improbable, and that's what makes it great. It's a brilliant craftsman taking the audience for a ride. One of De Palma's most enjoyable movies.

Yeah, the film is so hilariously absurd that it feels incredibly liberating. The thing could go anywhere - and enjoy itself every step of the way; it's the best kinda cheese there is. Also, Craig Wasson gives an outstanding comic performance as this nerdy dope.
