Who really owned the Chemosphere?

So was the Chemosphere / bachelor pad really owned by a friend of Sam's (traveling in Europe) or was it Sam's place? Since basically everything Sam told Jake was a lie, it was unclear whether or not the house-sitting story was true.

Or did Sam rent the place so he could spy on his wife and plan her murder? It's all very confusing.

I think there was no Sam - or Sam was just a part that Mr. Nevelle was playing. So I think Mr. Nevelle owned both the sphere and the house.

I'm sure it was owned by Alexander Revelle. Maybe it was his pseudo 'bachelor pad'; maybe he bought it so he could spy on his wife.

From the dialog, Gloria had the money and Alexander was a broke actor. Logic prevails that Gloria owned it. Perhaps they rented out from time to time. In any case, Alexander would have access to it.
