Men claim women have the control, but women don't own the companies, they don't direct the films, and if there are things they won't do, they won't last long in the business. I simply saw it one night and fell in love with De Palma's Hitchcock direction and sweeping strings, Melanie Griffiths' voice, Deborah Shelton's beauty and the hand held drill.

I wasn't there when Body Double was made, though I did hear a detailed pre-release (radio) discussion of the movie by director Brian De Palma. In the early 1990s, I attended a seminar in which Annette Haven, a famous star in the porn industry when the movie was produced, lectured about her involvement with Body Double. She had been cast in the Holly Body role, but studio concerns about casting an actual porn star pushed her out of the role, which went to Melanie Griffith. De Palma kept Ms. Haven as a technical adviser to the film, thus her own porn performance "terms" went into the script as the verbal list Holly Body gave to Jake Scully.
I, too, noted Hitchcock-like elements in the story and the stylistic shooting; innocent man accused by circumstantial evidence, rotating views circling around actors, and the deep tunnel view reminiscent of Vertigo.
Also enhancing the film was the Chemosphere house where Scully was house-sitting (also used in a 1964 episode of The Outer Limits called The Duplicate Man), and during the porn-shoot scene, the pounding "Relax" music by (and starring in the scene) Frankie Goes to Hollywood, from their album, Welcome to the Pleasuredome.

"Market Forces" control the industry.
The WOMAN has Total and absolute CONTROL.
If there are things "she won't do" then she "won't do them".
However, if market forces dictate that a particular "scene" is in demand then the director / producer etc WILL look for a "actress" who is willing to oblige that scene. because that type of scene "SELLS".
Our woman in particular has no obligation to do the scene. Instead she can pass it by and decide to do another project.
However, if people don't come a knockin' at her door for roles then that is their choice to hire someone who they feel is right for the role or is willing to do the work.

The producer can simply go to one of the talent agency websites and choose from hundreds of beautiful-looking performers who list their various and multifaceted specialties. Want to hire a cutie who performs (fill in the blank) on camera? You might have to search for a whole 15 seconds to find a suitable girl/girl performer.

There could have been a time in Holly's life when she filmed those acts, but now, for whatever reason, is in a position to decline them.
