Who has come to this movie through the soundtrack??

I wonder how many people where introduced to "Birdy" from the soundtrack? I orginally found the movie being a fan of Peter Gabriel listened to the soundtrack before watching the movie. When this movie came out it did not get much press and few theaters where showing it. I ended up renting it on video and really enjoyed the movie. This was one of the movies before Nick Cage became a superstar and I think really shows his acting ability. Thanks

My first exposure to this movie was the soundteack which I loved. I figured that watching it might change the way I listened to the soundtrack, but it didn't thank goodness.

Funny...I was been reading a James Patterson novel "Along Came a Spider" while on an exercise bike and listening to this soundtrack. PERFECT soundtrack to that. Anyway, I also was gripped by the music and purchased the DVD on Amazon. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and Peter's soundtrack was a natural fit!

I had the opposite experience: I saw "Birdy" during its original release and have been a Peter Gabriel fanatic ever since. I just watched it again, and am still blown away by how beautifully Gabriel's music fits the film. I wish he would do more film scores. "Birdy" and "The Last Temptation of Christ" are two of the most original and moving soundtracks I've ever heard.
Side note: Alan Parker remarked once that working with Gabriel on "Birdy" was a wonderful experience, especially after working with a "megalomaniac" (his word) like Roger Waters on "Pink Floyd: The Wall". :-)

Good question but not so easily answered. Parker or Gabriel? I had been a fan of both but, ultimately to answer your question, in brief, I was there more because of Peter Gabriel. However, I bought the "cassette" only after having seen the movie. Now lost... have to buy the CD!!

In fact, for me, the shock came from the - then - young and relatively unknown Modine and Cage. Incredibly good.

By the way, i was in Cannes in 1985. Vivid memories of Birdy ... and of Techiné's "Rendez-vous", especially its newcomer lead actress, the amazing Juliette Binoche.

I watched The Last Temptation of Christ, too. Both movies happened to be on Hulu...now I just need to see the rest of Rabbit-Proof Fence (only caught a few minutes on TV once).

Found on Cable late one night. Flipping through the channels and caught this on. The credits read Mathew Modine and Nicholas Cage, WHAT? Caught me off guard how young Cage looked. Stayed and started to enjoy and then fell in love with the film as it came on so many times. But good lord how great Gabriel did the Score, the Bird's POV flying out, genius firing on all chambers.

The imagery was great and the music was tops. One of the greatest of the 80s. And personal favorites. Have Gabriels HIT. But need to find that new remastered Birdy Soundtrack.
