Maitland employed a toadie who, through his total incompetence, allowed Foley to wreck the buffet at the Harrow Club.
Was it this morning?
shareIs this the man...?
Anyway I have the scene open right now... A few questions:
- Victor and Cuz are just hanging out. About to have lunch... And, I mean, do you really need to have lunch with your henchman?
- When Axel threw Cuz.. they lost some of the fruit and salad items—a lot of orange slices. But the good stuff (including the whole roast pork) was on the opposite end of the table and still intact. So.. did he really wreck the buffet at the Harrow Club?

Still, I wonder how often Penguin hung out with his henchmen in 1966? I get working together... but I would bet Penguin had other people he chose to be around in non-work situations.
I would have liked to have seen Victor have a dinner date with a nice lady friend.
We don't know how much Mikey actually stole, but he had a stack bonds which we have no idea on the value. It didn't seem like too much, though it could have been. Should he have done it, of course not, did he deserve to die because of it, of course not. Should he have known that Mr. Drug Seller would kill him over it, yes. Does it make it right to kill him over it, no.
Maitland kills people. Does that make him a bad guy? What?

Yeah I can't remember if we actually see any amount written on the bonds. I don't think he knew how much they were valued at, but I imagine he thought they weren't worth too much as you stated. I would think that if he knew they were around 100k apiece and he was stealing a few million total that he would not have taken them, but then again, Mikey wasn't too bright.
shareWe don't see them, but Mikey reads out the denomination: "ten thousand Deutsche Marks".
According to https://www.measuringworth.com/datasets/exchangeglobal/ in 1984, 1 USD was 2.845 DM, so 10,000 DM was about 3500 USD. He pulls out a big stack from his paper bag. I don't know how many but you can take a guess: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEwzOu7_Sp8&t=122s
Let's say there were a hundred? That would be $350,000 which is just over $1m in today's money. Easily enough to get you whacked by an organised crime boss.
Haha yup. Mikey wasn't too bright, but should have known better.
If they were worth a million in today's money, how much was Maitland moving? Mikey says there was a whole case of the stuff and only took a stack. Maitland moving like hundreds of millions in a wood crate? Damn.
