Eddie Murphy's Beverly Hills Cop TV pilot has been rejected by CBS

Deadline reports that the US network has opted not to pick up the Eddie Murphy-starring project for a full series.

Murphy would have appeared in a supporting role as original Beverly Hills Cop Axel Foley, with the projected show focusing on Axel's son Aaron (Brandon T Jackson).

The comedy-drama - from The Shield creator Shawn Ryan - was originally considered one of the strongest candidates for a series pick-up this pilot season.

Despite CBS's decision, Beverly Hills Cop will now be shopped to other networks and could still find a home elsewhere.

Men In Black's Barry Sonnenfeld directed the pilot, which also starred Judge Reinhold and Kevin Pollak.

Must have been pretty bad if none of the networks picked it up considering the amount of crap they show currently.

Too bad this never got picked up. That doesn't necessarily mean it was bad. It might have defied their ability to conceptualize and sell it. It may have been a different kind of cop drama/comedy, and networks hate that. If it didn't fit in their cookie cutter mold they're not going to take a risk on it.

It'd be perfect for some company like Netflix to take up, though. Wish they would have.
