Audiences must have been confused in 1984.

The scene where Stanzi comes home and sees Salieri in the bedroom with Wolfie, she immediately feels uneasy and wants him out of the house immediately. This wouldn’t make much sense without the scene that is only in the directors cut where Salieri pretends to extort sex from her only to humiliate her when she’s willing to go through with it.

I hate that scene where she goes to Salieri's house and I think it was good that they cut it out of the original, but I agree that without it her line "I regret I have no servants to show you out" doesn't have the impact. When I saw the original I just assumed it was meant to convey they had no servants because Mozart squandered their money.

Yes Mozart did squander the money which is why she didn’t have any servants but the fact that she wanted Salieri out of the house is dependent on that scene. There’s actually a similar problem in Planes, Trains and Automobiles, when Neil and Del get to the house Neil’s wife is like so happy to see Del for some reason, that always puzzled me until I found out that there was a deleted subplot where Susan thinks Neil is having an affair and he made up the name Del Griffith as an excuse as to where he’s been, thus she’s relieved to find out that Del is in fact real and a man.
