Mozart should have been suspicious about the maid working for FREE.

There would be an understanding if she wanted to get paid but he should of wondered why she would spend her day doing all of that housework and get nothing but joy, maybe, out of it. She could of been there to steal which she was intellectually for Sallieri.

The idea was that she was being paid by an anonymous admirer to work for the Mozarts. Constanza says 'People give us presents all the time'. The maid's services were a gift, just like a case of wine or a jewelled snuff-box. But yes, Léopold was rightly suspicious.
