The Opening Credits
Does anyone else think this movie has one of the greatest opening credits sequences of all time? Especially coming, as it does, after the ultimate hook of a prologue. It's just the perfect marriage of image and music. Mozart's Symphony No. 25 in G Minor lends itself beautifully both to Salieri's distress, as he is rushed through the streets of Vienna on this snowy night, and to the comparative warmth and conviviality of the ball, juxtaposed against the outdoor scenes. Even the musical shift as the gates of the hospital are swung open is spot on.
