He doesn't care about society any more than he can do what he wants to do and get away with it at any cost, even his dignity. The principal of his school is Jeffrey Jones who two years prior plays the similar role of Emperor in Amadeus (1984); and, Ferris's sister is in the role of Salieri, trying to slip him up along the way because of her jealousy, yet in the end she goes to jail and learns to accept that Ferris will always win and be loved by everyone. Save Ferris. Amen.

Interesting post. I have to say I'm not so sure Jeffrey Jones plays a similar role in both. In Amadeus the emperor is basically swept up along with everyone else in admiring and applauding Mozart, it's Ferris's sister and Salieri who are similar. But I agree that Mozart in this movie and Ferris are that same type of "can do no wrong" golden boy character.

Oh, I love this!
I recognized the similarities in Jeffrey Jones characters, but I stopped there. (It's not really the characters, but the way Jones plays them, that's very similar)

I don't see it that way. Mozart was very serious about his music even if he was more cavalier about his regular life (going on the film version here). Mozart was also being pulled in different directions by his wife, his father, and his work - something Ferris wasn't. Mozart had a very contemptuous relationship with his father unlike Ferris to whom his father was more like a buddy.

I see Jeffrey Jones' Emperor and Rooney as *totally different*. The Emperor is a big fan of Mozart and even an apologist, whereas Rooney knew Ferris was a scam artist and devised ways of catching him.
