Where exactly is Alphabet City?
I'm just wondering where in the city it is?What is the neighborhood like?

shareAvenue A, B, C, & D on the lower east side of New York City. Not at all what it once was. Although Ave D is still pretty shady after dark, C is fine, B is OK and A is downright suburban (and the street I live on).
After Dinkins cleaned up Tompkins Square Park and Giuliani finished the job city-wide, the whole place got really gentrified. I dunno when the real estate agents named it "East Village" but that's what everyone calls it now. Tompkins Square Park now has one of the best dog runs in the country. People really freakin' love their dogs in NYC.
East Village is an expensive neighborhood, one bedroom will run you about $2,000 a month.
However, in 1984, Alphabet City was no picnic. This movie is not far-fetched at all.
FYI: things used to be so "seedy" down there that "Tompkins Square Park" was known as "Needle Park," a reference to the amount of drug/heroin users there.
There was even a movie made named "Panic in Needle Park."
Same area where Madonna used to find shelter when she was eating out of garbage cans in order to "make in NYC."
BUT things have "changed"....
"Don't call me 'honey', mac."
"Don't call me 'mac'... HONEY!"
