There is no mistaking the decade in which The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension was made, and with regards to the film’s distinct ‘80s-ness, it is a gloriously synthesized slice of quirky entertainment. But what further makes this such a fun movie is its conglomeration of characteristics, its easy tone, and its sense of absurd wonder. An “out of genre piece,” as Richter puts it, Buckaroo Banzai does exactly what Buckaroo himself achieves in the opening sequence: it “takes notions of reality and turns them inside out.” And if it also happens to have one of the greatest end credit sequences of all time, so much the better: http://www.cutprintfilm.com/blu/the-adventures-of-buckaroo-banzai/
