Sam's Friends
Did they ever explain the disappearance of some of Sam's friends from Junior High/Middle School? (Friends such as Robin, Marci, and Julia...... her friend Bonnie lasted a little longer but she eventually faded away too.)

I don't think they ever explained it. Marci was Sam's first real friend. Then Bonnie became her best friend. The last episode I saw Bonnie in was when Sam came back home from college and then snuck out of the house with Bonnie to go to a party.
My theory is that the producers wanted to phase out Sam's female friends to make room for episodes with Sam having boyfriends instead.

Actually, if you re-watch that episode - the very last scene in the show reveals that Marci didn't get accepted into Montague. She and Sam both applied to this school but only Sam got accepted into the school (thru Angela's help of course).
That is WHY Sam declined going to Montague - because Marci didn't get in. Sam then says: "Marci is applying to a Finnish school" (in Finland). Then Sam wants to of course apply as well.
