On the subject of DVDs

I really like this show, and would like to add it to my collection. I bought Season 1 right away when it came out, but it's been six years, and so far, no other seasons have been released. I was surfing the internet last night, and there are some sites that have the entire series for sale on DVD. However, they do not have the backing of Sony. Is this legal? Is there anybody out there who knows if these sites are reliable?

Those are most likely homemade DVDs made from Nick at Nite airings.

Legal, or not (and I'm guessing not), Sony is to blame for people buying bootlegged copies. It's not like we have the option of buying it from them.

I agree that there are scam sites (tvaddicts.tv has terrible reviews), but other sites like ioffer.com and sell.com are reputable sites. Just check the seller's rating to make sure they have done a lot of positive business. And don't expect the same quality you would get from an official copy.

Knowing Sony, they will see this and have all copies yanked from these sites. But they are greedy f-ers, because all we want is our show and they won't give it to us. x-(

It is definitely frustrating that Sony will not release the DVDs. That and "The Nanny" are very hard to come by! (Although they've released up to season 3 of that show, but its very slow going!)

I see in the store stuff like "Tori and Dean: Inn Love" out on DVD, as well as shows that were cancelled after one season. I know the official line from Sony is that WTB sales were low, but I find it hard to believe that these classic sitcoms are such bad sellers they can't release them. Like you said, they are not giving us the option of buying them properly so people will find a way to get them.

Also, I just saw Saved By the Bell out on DVD....but where's my Who's the Boss??????

I completely agree with you. It can't possibly be about them losing money on sales, but just that the profit margin isn't big enough. Way to treat your loyal fans, Sony. At last count, there were 3200 people on the petition (http://www.petitiononline.com/wtbdvd/petition.html) to have this show released on DVD. I have a really hard time believing that making and selling 3000 copies would not cover the cost of having them made and even leave them with a small profit.

3 seasons of The Nanny (3/6) is unacceptable. 3 seasons of Night Court (3/9) is unacceptable. 3 seasons of Becker (3/6) is unacceptable. ONE season of Growing Pains (1/7) and Who's the Boss? (1/8) is UNACCEPTABLE! These were hit shows in their time, and a lot of people really loved and miss them. Keeping them from us just because they won't profit ENOUGH from making them is cruel.

After season 1 was released on DVD, due to the fact that you were the only one who purchsed it, they decided not to release the rest of the seasons
