In the final episode the broke up because Tony got a good job in Iowa. He later returned to Conneticut to apply for as a housekeeper again at Angela's and she re-hires him....If he came back to Conneticut, why did he only come back as a housekeeper?

I read that originally Tony and Angela were supposed to get married in the final season but they decided against it because they thought people wouldn't want to rewatch the series in syndication.
