of the classic John Christopher novel. Check out AiCN for details...

Gawd. ... The series did nice, simple representations of what were primarily teen-oriented novels, and did it well. I shudder at the thought of what a hundred million dollar Tripods movie will be. KISS! -- "Keep It Simple, Spielberg!"

i though he was making a remake of war of the wolrds. both stories are based on the same concept, which may explain the confusion. Anyway i'm downloading the episodes right now and I'm relly enjoying the show. It's amazing what you can find on the net.

Jordan To Helm Tripods

Australian-born director Gregor Jordan has signed on to rewrite and direct the adaptation of John Christopher's The Tripods Trilogy for Walt Disney's Touchstone Pictures label, Variety reported.

Disney picked up the feature rights to Christopher's SF book series in 1997 for producer Don Murphy, with an eye toward the project's franchise possibilities.

In 2000, Darren Lemke came on board to adapt the trilogy, and subsequently, Terry Hayes, before Jordan signed to rewrite and direct, the trade paper reported.

The Christopher trilogy, which comprises The White Mountains, The City of Gold and Lead and The Pool of Fire, tells the story of an Earth conquered by Tripods, who have enslaved the human race by implanting a mind-controlling device in the heads of everyone over 15, the trade paper reported. The books, first published in 1967, tell the story of a boy and two of his friends who race to overthrow the Tripods before they must undergo the capping ritual. The Tripods Trilogy was previously adapted by the BBC as a TV series, beginning in 1984.

if they make the movies they should include the prequel, When the Tripods Came, and they should refrain from making it a big huge franchise(only make a couple of tripod figurines and a few character figurines and nothing else)

My sentiments exactly! Show us one ending -- the ending written by Christopher. Let there be no other alternate ending on three different (differently priced) DVD releases. I'll buy the DVD. Except for Halloween costumes, the focus of the ancilaries should be on high-quality action figures of the stars and models of the main alien and human equipment, and a Science-Fiction Role Playing Game for those who want to get into it more deeply. Plus the obligatory cheap toys for restaurant give-aways. Few (if any) real fans want to buy thousands of Tripods toys -- we want the novels on screen! Ancilary toy sales may be fine for Star Wars, but this ain't Star Wars, it's literature. Since you mentioned the prequel, good ancilary products for that would be packages of ephemaral writings: copies of TV listings announcing appearances of the first people who were capped, copies of military notices, maps of England and the Channel Islands, timetables of air flights, maps of northwest Europe, etc. -- things which fire the imagination.

I just noticed the film in IMDB also.

If they can do it justice, and the BBC series also, it could be good. Trying to be optimistic.

The cynic in me says they'll balls it up though, and make another Spielberg-like War of the Worlds.

Nice to see a Harry Harrison fan, SSR. Have you read the Deathworld trilogy?

The Doctor: The Daleks have failed! Why don't you just DIE?
Dalek: You would make a good Dalek.

I think I have, but my memory's bad. SSR and Bill the Galactic Hero are the ones that stick in my mind mostly
