transmission dates

i watched the original TV series back in 1984, and later bought the original UK VHS release -- on the VHS release the double length episodes "Robin Hood and the Sorcerer" (s01e01) and "The Swords of Wayland" (s02e05) are shown as completely separate episodes -- similarly, in the program credits, each has its own credits -- i always thought these episodes were transmitted on separate dates (which means the transmission dates given on IMDB are incorrect) -- unfortunately the other online episode lists i've found all seem to take their info from IMDB (or maybe from re-release info?)

perhaps my memory at fault, but it would have been unusual at the time for the first two episodes of a new series to be transmitted separately on the same day -- so can anyone who remembers watching the original UK TV series confirm whether or not these double episodes were transmitted on different days -- thanks

There are some excellent RoS sites that have "recommended" viewing orders that move Swords of Waylan in the viewing order so that it makes sense.

Here's one:

I do remember reading somewhere that Swords of Wayland was supposed to be the opening story of series 2, but was moved to later in the running order so that ITV could show it over the 1985 Easter weekend. If true, that would explain the continuity error.

The commentaries (which are excellent!) by Mark Ryan and Jason Connery, as well as the bonus discs, explain how the series was filmed "out of order".

Auroracat-- can you provide any more websites that pertain to RoS? Thanks.

Yes, series 3 was filmed completely out of order. You can see just by looking at Adam Bell and The Betrayal that they were filmed first, as Jason's hair is shorter and Clive Mantle is wearing that silly wig to cover up his shorn locks. They were of course also filmed in winter rather than spring/summer.

I have a couple book marked (on my home PC). I will post them here when I get home from work.

Any help is appreciated, Aurora!

I finished re-watching the complete series after many years of not seeing any of them, plus i watched the commentaries and bonus discs so it feels like the end of Robin of Sherwood -- any informative websites would diminish that feeling!

Here are some that I have found to have great information about the show and cast and links to other sites:

And a FaceBook page - though it's not real active:
