Many historical characters missing?

I know this is set in the 1190's (up to at least 1203 as John's nephew Arthur is mentioned as strangled by him in 'The Pretender'), including when John became king, so many events had not yet happened - ie Magna Carta, 1216, but many important characters of the era existed then, but weren't mentioned?

William Marshall - the famous 'Greatest Knight'?
King Philip of France, who plotted with John during Richard's Austrian captivity?
John and Richard's formidable mother, Eleanor of Aquitaine (d.1204)?
John and Richard's sisters, Joan (d.1199) and Eleanor (d.1214)

The script's did mention John's plotting with/against many people, but none of the above were mentioned?

Given the fact that the focus was the fairly narrow world of Nottingham and mostly Robin and the Merries in the forest, it doesn't surprise me that none of the French figures are mentioned. (Especially for the first two seasons.)

Remember that fairly early in the series King Richard had already been ransomed, so there was no reason to mention Philip.

Actually Phillip was mentioned in The King's Fool episode, I believe. I just watched the first seven episodes.

There's something here that doesn't make sense. Let's go and poke it with a stick.-Doctor Who

William Marshall actually does turn up in an episode in season 3.
He`s sent to Nottingham at one point when John has got annoyed about the Sheriff`s lack of success in controlling the outlaw problem.
