I'll tell my dad to try to hold off going to Missouri until the last week of July so I can buy this set and then I can share with my nephews. They really like the old 80s cartoons (He-Man is one example) so now to get them to like GI Joe OLD SCHOOL.
I will pick this up too! I loved watching G.I. Joe in my earlier years. It was so much fun watching and collecting the toys back then. I'm so glad Shout! got the rights to release the series now.
This is awesome news! I think we could all see this coming when Hasbro re-acquired their rights to their 80's cartoons recently. And with new 'Transformers' and 'G.I. Joe' live action movies on the way, it made sense that they would re-release these highly requested DVD sets. When it was announced a few weeks ago that 'Transformers Season 1: Volume 1' was coming out, I felt good about our chances of seeing G.I. Joe as well.
Thanks for the heads up!

I wish they would release season 2 part 2 on dvd. I bought the series back in 2004 and have been waiting for over 4 years for season 2 part 2. I also would like to see the DIC 1990 JOE series on dvd as well.
I'm guessing the plan is to finally release 'Season 2: Part 2', but they'll do it in chorological order. As for the Dic series or 'G.I. Joe' Extreme, it's tough to say. As far as I know Hasbro only bought the rights to the Sunbow cartoons.

Nice! Thanks for the heads up. Now the question becomes, do I wait for the potential complete set, w/ more extras possible, or buy them as they are released?
I'm telling you, both of these have been out of print for a long time, and with their continued popularity and the hype from the movies I think they'll be big sellers. And Shout Factory! does quality work.
I simply cannot wait.

It looks like the first 4 disc DVD set (and this is all based on info someone posted on Amazon), is going to be a re-master of the first Rhino DVD set (Season 1, part 1), with presumably cleaned up audio, video, etc. The episode content looks the same, for the most part
(I'm really hoping the Shout! Factory one is going to be English subtitled or Closed Captioned this time since I'm hearing impaired, ha ha).
But what I'm stoked about is the packaging and bonus features. The box set and disc are looks sooooo nice.
What I'm wondering now is, in addition to the regular series - will Shout! Factory reissue the first 2 miniseries ("A Real American Hero" and "Revenge of Cobra"), as well as G.I.Joe the Movie?
The Rhino double disc set of the 2 miniseries is out of print too, and it looks like GIJ: The Movie is as well. I hope those get a re-issue as well as the 2 miniseries are probably my favorite G.I. Joe releases of all time. So if Shout! is going to reissue the regular series, they should do those as well.

I don't know why so many DVD releases, and not just cartoons, aren't CC'd. It's a real shame.

Here's hoping! Yo Joe!
The mini-series were actually re-released last year as part of Hasbro's re-launch of the 'A Real American Hero' toy line [That began with the 25th anniversary]. They came as part of themed action figure multi-packs.
[Here's a link to the thread where we were talking about it. It includes a link to a sight with images of some of the figures from the sets]
Each set was about $20, so it was a great deal as it included 4 figures plus the DVD. Now of course that doesn't mean they won't re-release them again separately.
As for 'G.I. Joe: The movie', it's been out of print for a while now, so hopefully it'll get a release sometime this Fall.
EDIT: UPDATE
Just read this article that says that three of the miniseries, "A Real American hero [AKA 'The MASS device'], 'The revenge of Cobra' and 'Pyramid of darkness' are going to be included in the season 1.1 DVD!
The first 3 discs are the mini series, all of which pre-dated the weekday cartoon, and the fourth disc has the first 7 episodes of the actual series. So this is looking like it's going to be not so much Season 1.1 as the first three minis and the first 1/4 of season 1.

It's 17 DVDs! And it comes with a ton of cool extras, including a dog tag flash drive. Not to mention the fact that the set itself looks amazing. The link has all the details.
What I'm wondering is if any of the Shout! releases will have the interview with Marv Wolfman that the original mini series release by Rhino had (the one that came with the toy). And will future releases and/or the full series release include the same extras that the Rhino releases had like the interview with the voice actors who played Flint and Lady Jaye. I wish they would put out more details for the fans, that way I know if I can upgrade or not without losing anything since I already own all the Rhino releases.
