shareto the best of my knowledge Cobra didn't stand for anything in particular. It was more or less just like saying "sly as a snake" or "Lower than a snake" because people consider snakes "Low, sly, slithering, backstabbing, and deadly" and Cobra is nick named "The king snake and the deadliest" Even though the cobra isn't really the deadliest i don't think...i think the Python or rattle snake is....but they had to add in the "what sounds cool" factor

Python
or Cobra
Cobra sounds cool, is supposedly the deadliest snake and thus deadliest organization in the world.
if it did stand for something then Cobra-La would have to stand for something as well in the movie and i'm pretty sure it doesn't, so really it sounds Cool, terrifying and deadly.
according to wiki, the comics reveals cobra commander choose the name cobra because of it's menacing name and they wre an overt terrorist group. the cartoon, it got it's name from cobra-la, and cobra commander was the "face" of cobra-la to revenge humankind and they could rise again, as the movie explained

I can see that. It's sad and true according to the cartoon, but i can see it. does anyone else see the the irony though??? Cobra Commander = a faceless man (or snake-man if you go by the movie) is chosen to be the "face of Cobra" faceless because we never see his face til the 1987 movie. share
