Cobra Mortar soldier

I'm trying to find the name of an action figure. It was a Cobra soldier who wore a metal helmet and two pronged gloves. He uses the gloves to lift Mortar rockets by the tail and then drop them into the Mortar.I thought it was the H.E.A.T. Viper, but I found out I was wrong.Anybody know which action figure I'm thinking of?

reply

Hmmm, the two-prong gloves didn't ring a bell but the only figure that popped into my head was Scrap Iron.

No,it's not Scrap Iron.Maybe I'm just remembering the H.E.A.T. Viper incorrectly.I've been to the Yojoe website, but haven't been able to find any action figures that look like that. The first action figure I ever got was the Cobra. What year did that come out?

I have Mark Bellomo's "The ultimate guide to G. I. Joe" here and I've thumbed through it, looking at the years around when the H.E.A.T. Viper came out and I can't really say anything matches that original description [other than the H.E.A.T. Viper himself]. The only thing that was close was th Frag-Viper [Though it's a bit of a stretch].

The Cobra? Do you mean the Cobra Soldier; the blue one? It first came out in 1982. Since you had a H.E.A.T. Viper I pin you down as being more in the second half of the "A Real American Hero" era of the late 80's - early 90's so that must not be it.

If I come across something that matches that description I'll post it here for you.

I never had the H.E.A.T. Viper,I just saw it in a store.GNAWGAHYDE was in the store at the same time. The oly figures I had were Cobra,Toxo-Viper,Mercer,Psyche-Out,Undertow and Cobra Commander and Overkill.

I'm sorry I wasn't able to be of any more help, man. I hope you figure out which figure it is that you're trying to remember.

reply

Well, let's forget about the name.Let's focus on the type of character I'm looking for:a Cobra Mortar soldier. Are there any of those in your guide?

reply

I took a fresh look today, and the closest thing I found in that era was the H.E.A.T. Viper.

Well then forget about the era.Are there ANY Cobra Mortar soldiers in the entire guide?

The link above to YoJoe is VERY useful, from what I saw. I don't recall seeing many, if any, gaps in the action figure lineups. Did you go to the root page?

reply

Just curious, are you sure he was a Mortar viper? The outfit sounds a little similar to the

1988 Hydro viper (then scroll to bottom of page for addons he is supoposed to wear)

The figure you thinking of is called Frag-Viper. He wasnt a mortar soldier, he used the claw to hurl grenades. He had a silver insect looking helmet and a brown jumpsuit.

reply

Definitely the Frag Viper.

Maybe you had the accessories mixed up between the Frag and Heat Vipers?
