Shipwrecks Voice?
I noticed after a couple of lines that Shipwreck sounds like a Jack Nicholson wannabe ... and it has driven me crazy ever since then ! Anyone else notice this?
shareAccording to writer Ron Friedman [In interviews on the various Joe DVDs], Shipwreck's Nicholsonesque voice and laconic cool were intentional. The cartoon, while playing with the same characters as the toy line and comic, wasn't constrained by them and in many ways had lots of creative license. I doubt that 'ARAH' godfather Larry Hama intended Shipwreck to sound like Nicholson but Friedman was charged with giving the characters... character .

IIRC Hama's versions of the characters were quite different from the cartoon and in a few cases Hama was forced to use elements from the cartoon. This included introducing Serpentor and Sgt. Slaughter into the comics (the latter however only lasted a few issue before mysteriously disappearing). Hama also wanted to make The Baroness American (which does happen in the movie) but Hasbro and the cartoon went with a Eastern European background.
