syndication after original run

Could someone clarify if the original sunbow series still ran in syndication even after the original run was over? The reason I ask is because I wasn't born until 1986, but I still remember watching GI Joe cartoons as a little kid. They may have been the Dic series, but I could've sworn it was the original based on the characters. To be honest, I have trouble remembering the individual episodes I saw when I was little, I just remember the characters.

The original did run in syndication after its initial run because it was there that G.I. JOE: The Movie premiered as a four part special before the Dic series began in order to bridge the gap, the movie segments were hosted by Sgt. Slaughter whom still appeared in the new Dic version.

It ran a whole bunch of times after the initial run. I watched it many times all throughout elementary and middle school. Popular kids shows like that almost always re-run in syndication a bunch of times for years after their initial run. The money to make the episodes has already been spent so for the rights holder it costs them nothing to show it again and again and again. As long as it can still pull in decent ratings the rights holder can just sit back and cash the royalty checks.
