Lifeline sucked

Yeah, we got the fact that he was a pacifist but sometimes his ideals were out of line. I can't remember which episode it was but Lifeline fell in a pit trap and time was of the essence. One of the Joes lowered his rifle down into the pit to allow Lineline to climb up and Lifeline wouldn't take it as he refused to even touch a weapon. The Joes got him out somehow but I would have left him.

Why Lifeline joined an anti terrorist unit was a complete mystery to me.What would he do if he saw a couple of Crimson Gaurds attacking a school bus full of little kids just stand there and uphold his pacifist beliefs?
Ironicly the Lifeline action figure came with a hand gun.

Doc, the character he replaced, was also an avowed pacifist. The pacifistic combat medic is a pretty common trope and I thought it was a nice juxtaposition to the otherwise gung-ho Joes. I'd stopped reading the comic by '86. I'm curious if Larry Hama explored the difficulty of a soldier taking that stance in a war against terrorism.

It is funny the Lifeline figure came with a pistol (and also had a molded gun/holster as well). A few years later he was re-released as part of a Kellogg promotion, and the molded gun/holster and separate pistol were left out. This wasn't a retcon of some sort, Kellogg was apparently just sensitive to offering a toy that came with a gun.

At least in the Marvel comics, while the character was still a pacifist/conscientious objector and official non-combatant, he was also a black belt in hapkido, an entirely defensive martial art with no offensive moves, so at least he could handle himself and wasn't a complete wuss.

Wow, that's a neat little detail that really helps flesh out the character. Not surprising that Larry Hama would think to put something like that in his background.

Could you imagine opening up a preent on Christmas and it being him? That would suck.
