I want to get the DVDs, but hate Shipwreck. My memory may be flawed, but didn't he become the star of the show more, or less at some point? If not, at what point was he becoming more prominent?
Shipwreck was first introduced in the 1984 mini-series "The revenge of Cobra". When the daily cartoon series began a year later he had developed into a favorite of the writers [Especially Ron Friedman] and the fans.
He was featured as prominently as any Joe [Right up there with Flint and Lady Jaye], but he's not really the star per say. There are entire episodes that don't even feature him.
’Cause there’s thunder in your heart... Every move is like lightning!
Thanks for the response. Someone I work with was under the same impression I was about him becoming more prominent at some point. He hated him too. It's been 20 years since I watched them anyway, so maybe I won't find him as irritating now.
i now there was at least one episode entirely devoted to shipwreck, can not remember the name of it but he loses his memory and is in some perfect littel town that turns out to be run by cobra so they can extract some important piece of infromation from his brain. i think its springfield and i think they may have even plucked the storyline from the comics?
That would be the 2 parter "I dreamed of Springfield" He was also the main Joe in "once upon a Joe" where he's roped into telling a bunch of orphan kids a ridiculous story after accidentally demolishing their orphanage. I personally LOVE shipwreck. He is my fav Joe.
If there be a god...than hide from him our most evil enterprise!
I laughed my ass off when Polly got shot by Destro's enlarger ray (and is blown up to about 200 ft tall) and shows up to save the Joes and is just looking down on Shipwreck. Shipwreck has an oh sh*t look on his face. lol
Well,Shippy was one of those sarcastic charaters.I was watching the episode Lights Camrea Cobra. He's flying a flight pod and a cycote chomps on his his foot and then kicks into a stream. His resonse was "Beep Beep".
i agree, the best two episodes ever produced in the series imo. written very differently from the rest of the episodes; has almost a jacob's ladder vibe to it. btw, it appears to be based on the 1965 movie "36 hours."
Shipwreck was awsome. Most of the other charactors were interchangeable, but Shipy was fully flushed out and had personality. I wouldn't say he was featured more then the others, he was just more memerable.
Lets face it, if you get a chance who would you rather hang out with? Falcon is a tool, Duke is the boss man and after a hard day of kick snake butt you don't want to kick back with him no matter how cool he is, Snakeeyes is a horriable conversationalist, Slaughter would be fun for a while, but after the 20th "Maggot!!!!!" he wears a bit thin, and Flint is a boy scout.
Shipy on the other hand is a guy you can chil with. You know he has the best rum and cigars in his footlocker, knows how get his hand on the coolest controband, runs the best poker game on base, and knows all the local strippers by their first name. Not to mention he has the best stories.
Alpine was also a good "average Joe" drinking buddy type. He had kind of a Billy Dee "malt liquor" kind of cool going for him. Although Airtight's my personal fave because most people annoy me the same way they annoy him, LOL.
Colonel Miles Quaritch is like some sort of...non...giving-up...army guy!
Weekly Poker Night with Shipwreck, Alpine, Bazooka, and Quick-Kick...? Maybe Gung-Ho too. Just a word of warning, though... *NEVER* play with Ace or Torpedo.
Finally, "There's No Place Like Springfield" is up unedited on dailymotion. We finally get to see the little girl point the bazooka at Shipwreck then get destroyed by Polly. Haven't seen that since the 80's.
